Brian is the Chief Investment Officer of Mendota Financial Group. He has worked with institutional and private investors for over 30 years, with a focus on building solutions for clients that help achieve their goals. He has worked on setting asset allocation targets, building portfolios, selecting managers, and assessing risk over the course of his career.

In his current role, Brian supports the team by helping build appropriate portfolio solutions for all types of clients. His initial focus is building a diversified solution that optimizes the strategic return opportunity at various levels of risk by analyzing historical economic and market data. He supplements this by also seeking to be opportunistic in finding additional opportunities to add value given the normal volatility of markets that is typically driven by the emotions of investors.

Prior to joining Mendota, Brian was the Chief Investment Officer of the Global Public Market investing division at the State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB). The division was responsible for adding value for the pension fund by outperforming benchmarks without exceeding risk tolerances across numerous asset classes within the public markets – including domestic and international stocks, bonds and currencies. Brian has also taught in the graduate school of UW-Madison, and prior to that was a principal and portfolio manager for another Madison based private client advisory firm.

Brian received both his MS (Finance) and BBA (Finance) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a CFA Charterholder. Brian formerly served on the Board and is a past President of the CFA Society of Madison. He currently serves on the SEC’s Investor Advisory Committee, a group that is charged with offering recommendations to the SEC Commissioners as to how they could better serve investors. He also serves on a variety of non-profit Foundation Boards across the country, as well as a retirement plan committee.

Brian is married and has two adult daughters. He enjoys traveling, attending Badger and Packer games, and spending time with family and friends. He and his wife have lived in Madison, WI for the past 26 years.
